GRADUATE FELLOWSHIPS & TEACHING ASSISTANTSHIPS
Within the Philadelphia region’s only public doctoral university, Temple’s Department ofSpanish and Portuguese offers a newly upgraded and highly competitive Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program in Literature, Cultural Studies, and Linguistics. All applicants foradmission are automatically considered for fellowships or teaching assistantships that includefull tuition remission, medical coverage and a stipend of $19,000-$29,500 (gross) per year for at least five years, depending on qualifications. Students may receive an extra $5,000 research fund as well, and all of them are eligible for additional travel and summer research grants. Recipients of these awards will teach undergraduate courses that provideexcellent training for academic careers, although they are exempted of their teaching duties for at least one semester. Summer courses are offered to graduate students upon availability. They provide an estimate of around $4,200 per course to be added to the package.
The minimum application requirements are: (1) an undergraduate degree in hand before thebeginning of the 2022-2023 academic year; (2) submission of a complete application byJanuary 15, 2022; and (3) high fluency in English and either Spanish or Portuguese. TOEFL or IELTS scores are required.
We will consider any applicant who meets these criteria and wishes to pursue advancedstudies in Iberian or Latin American literature, culture, or linguistics; a prior degree inthese areas is not required.
